WEATHER WATCH

Melbourne

Hobart

Adelaide

Perfect conditions for football in Melbourne and Hobart this Sunday, which means we can pick our teams without considering the impact of wet weather at those locations. There is a smidge of rain expected during game time in Adelaide, so keep an eye on the forecast out there and monitor whether you need to avoid outside players. But given the mm’s expected it shouldn’t have too much of an impact.

Where to Attack

This is an attractive slate for backs with three of the four sides to attack in the league this season with defenders playing. Fremantle have given up the most points in the league to the position this season and playing at an unfamiliar ground down in Tasmania should open up plenty of opportunity for the Saints.

Adelaide have been one of the best teams to attack with forwards all season long, which is no surprise given they are sitting second last, with their opponent the only team lower on the ladder. Fremantle are the other team that looks like a juicy target, giving up the 87 points per player to the opposition’s top three scoring forwards (most in the league).

VALUE PLAYS

Kieran Strachan (DS $6,420) took over the number one ruck position last week for the Crows and had a massive performance for his first time in the lead role. Matched up against one of the toughest ruck divisions in the league in Max Gawn and Luke Jackson he managed 25 hit outs en route to 73 fantasy points. This weeks he draws another veteran of the game in Todd Goldstein, but it is a much easier matchup with Goldy giving up around league average this year to number one rucks.

Jack Bytel (DS $6,920) comes back into the side for Luke Dunstan with the Saints out of finals contention and knowing the Dunstan won’t be back next year. This should mean plenty of midfield opportunity for Bytel in the final game of the season. During the season he was attending approximately 50-60% of the Saints centre bounces when he played and flashed a 75-85 point ceiling. I love this ground and matchup for the Saints, particularly their inside midfielders.

Will Phillips (DS $5,580) has also started to see an increase in midfield time with Ben Cunnington out and the season winding down, North have started exposing the kids to greater opportunity. He is attending about 40% of the sides centre bounces and managed to post four straight games of 51+ fantasy points, which is good enough for over 9x return.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Rowan Marshall (DS $12,630) let everyone down last week and I was pretty much all in on him. As you will come to know from these previews, however, is I love to back the truck up on a failed play the week after. The reasons remain the same, don’t play the result. Marshall will play the majority of the lead ruck role and Blundstone arena should suit ruckman. Before last week’s bomb, Marshall has posted three straight games of 118+ fantasy points.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Zach Merrett (DS $16,380) typically responds to a down game with a monster, the three times he has gone under 100 points this year his next games have been 113, 153 and 142. Last week he went under 100 for a fourth time and here we have a must win game against Collingwood as the MCG. This is built for a Merrett special, his four scores at the MCG this season are 125, 103, 153 and 142, and from his last seven games against Collingwood he has only gone under 100 points on one occasion (a 92 point game).
