Geelong vs Brisbane at GMHBA (GEE -7.5, 172.5)

Where to Attack?

Beware that just one round into the season doesn’t give us much of a sample size when crunching the data.

Last year both Geelong and Brisbane were two of the toughest teams in the league to score fantasy points against across all positions, particularly the midfield. Round One was a different story, however, with Geelong giving up the 5th most points to the position across all teams. They will be without Patrick Dangerfield this week (in addition to Mitch Duncan) who spent plenty of time in the midfield, which leaves them with an aging Joel Selwood and a couple of youngsters, leaving them ripe for attack by the Lions.

Game Script - Geelong backs, Brisbane midfielders

VALUE PLAYS

Jordan Clark (DS $8,340, DK $5,800)... burned over half the field last week laying an absolute egg along with the rest of the Geelong team last week. I am happy to go back to the well (given it is a single game slate I am sure lots of other people will as well). As we mentioned last week, he got opportunity on the wing and that will continue this week. Back at home he should improve, especially if the Cats can get the game on their terms. The upside is worth the risk here.

Tom Atkins (DS $7,760, DK $4,600) has the old forward to half back role switch this season, which opens up his scoring potential dramatically. He has shown when given a more fantasy opportunistic role he can score points and I would expect to see that this year, particularly given the style of football Geelong likes to play (high uncontested possession). Atkins in Round One still managed 51 points in the Cats loss, which is close enough to value on a single game slate at his price point.

Charlie Constable (DS $7,670, DK $3,000) has been waiting a long time for this opportunity. After playing just 2 games in 2020 and drawing the sub role in Round One this year, he is back in the best 22 with Dangerfield out and should get all the time he can handle on the inside. Patrick Dangerfield attended 74% of the centre bounces last week and we can expect Constable to soak up a number of those.

In his first year he showed the fantasy scoring potential he possesses averaging 83 fantasy points over 8 games and at his current price he is a lock and load play on this slate.

MID VALUE PLAYS

Brandan Parfitt (DS $12,220, DK $7,400) will likely be the Cats best midfielder for this matchup. He stood tall in their Round One loss playing to his strengths with 9 tackles and 101 fantasy points. Playing back at GMHBA stadium will suit his contested game style and we should see his centre bounce attendances increase without Dangerfield in the lineup.

Jarrod Berry (DS $11,860, DK $7,000) was another who let me down in Round One but I am more than happy to go back on a single game slate this week. He saw the third most centre bounces of all Brisbane’s midfield last week, which is a number I loved. Throughout the preseason he looked set to make the leap this year and I won’t back off after one surprise loss to the Swans where the entire Lions team was well held.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Lachie Neale (DS $15,820, DK $9,800) will be off the leash this week and roaring to go after getting heavily tagged for a 68 fantasy point performance in a loss to Sydney. There isn't much to say about Neale we don’t already know, pretty much the top fantasy point performer over the past few years his upside is north of 150 points and as we noted above the Geelong middle got taken apart in Round One and doesn’t look to be any stronger this week.
