GWS vs Richmond at GIANTS Stadium (GWS -7.5, 123.5)
WEATHER WATCH
Perfect football conditions are expected this Friday night, which is always a bonus in DFS as we don’t have to consider and predict the level of rainfall. Giddy up.
WHERE TO ATTACK
Targeting defenders against Richmond has gone back over a season now making a really strong trend to target. Against the top three scoring opponent defenders they have conceded a whopping +7.5 fantasy points per game this season, which is the 2nd highest mark in the league.
This is an interesting selection dilemma at the ruck position with the Tigers year in year out sitting around the top for teams conceding ruck points. They have given up a ridiculous 11.9 points per game to the opponent’s number 1 Ruckman, which is the third highest mark in the league. Unfortunately, on the other side we are left with Shane Mumford as the possible selection. Mummy has had a terrible floor this season and isn't exactly someone who gets the better of his opponent (as evidenced by his +4.6 points per game conceded, which is the 6th highest mark this year).
VALUE PLAYS
Lachlan Ash (DS $7,300, DK $3,900)
He is starting to build into form in recent weeks averaging over 50 fantasy points the last three weeks (56, 48, 51). At this price point in a single game slate that is more than enough. He also looks to be building more comfort at this level and confidence to take the game on. As we noted at the top this is a dream matchup for defenders and I will be pairing Ash with various other Giants backs (including the premium play in Lachie Whitfield).
MID PRICED PLAYS
Shai Bolton (DS $9,260, DK $5,200)
Hopefully we are starting to scare off all the ownership now after back to back subpar performances of 54 and 51. That said, he is playing through the middle (14 center bounce attendances last week, Tigers second highest) and in this role last year he showed a GPP winning ceiling (topping the 100 point mark). What has killed him the last two weeks is non-existent second halves after solid scores in the first. If this is a fitness issue it will surely snap at some point and Bolton will deliver a slate breaking score.
Jacob Hopper (DS $12,230, DK $6,200)
Hopper continues to be the Giants mainstay in the midfield despite whoever returns. Last week he had 20 centre bounce attendances and while it only resulted in a 66 fantasy points that is not far off at this price point. That much time in the middle will lead to a breakout game soon enough and I will be on when it hits.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Lachie Whitfield (DS $15,020, DK $7,900)
Love this play in the matchup with the Tigers. As we noted at the top Richmond have consistently been around the top for points given up to backs for over a season now. Furthermore, they don’t apply a defensive mindset to individual players as they haven’t tagged over their most recent premiership era. If Whitfield does not receive a tag his ceiling is the moon. I will be pairing him up with plenty of other GWS defenders.
FADE OF THE DAY - Dustin Martin (DS $12,660)
Probably the easiest call of the day. Matt De Boer is looming after doing a job on Martin earlier in the year during the 2019 season and holding him to 68 points during round 3. The grand final was a different beast as the Tigers sent Dusty forward to break the tag. That said even without the attention from one of the best taggers in the game Martin has not looked himself recently and appears to be spending significant portions of the game forward even with the injuries to the midfield.
