WEATHER WATCH
Gold Coast
Adelaide
Brisbane
The Queensland locations look to have perfect football conditions on this slate with little to no chance of rain. Adelaide on the other hand is expecting up to 15mm of rain with a high chance of it coming through the afternoon when the game is to be played. If you are set to target this matchup remember to focus on players who will get a boost in wet weather, such as rucks, inside midfielders and strong tacklers.
Where to Attack
Plenty of options to consider on this slate with Melbourne, North Melbourne and Essendon all top five for points conceded to midfielders. Melbourne lead the way for the teams playing on Saturday giving up the second most points in the league at 74 points per game (over 6 points above league average). North Melbourne and Essendon are not far behind giving up the 4th and 5th most respectively.
All year targeting forwards against North Melbourne has been a winning ticket. They have given up the fourth most points in the league at 51 per game, however when you isolate the top 3 scorers from the position this balloons to 67 per game (the second most in the league).
Essendon stand out as the team to target in the ruck giving up the second most points in the league to the oppositions number one ruck this year at 73 points per game. Unfortunately, the challenge on this slate is that Port Adelaide are playing both Lycett and Ladhams, which limits the upside. The avenue I prefer is targeting Fremantle who have given up the third most hit outs this season, which means Todd Goldstein should win the ruck contests and will surely carve up Darcy around the ground.
VALUE PLAYS
Tom Green (DS $7,360, DK $3,500)
Green comes back in to provide the Giants with additional support through the midfield after the shock dropping of Stephen Coniglio. In the 4 games Green has played this season he has had stints through the midfield, typically seeing 30%+ center bounce attendances. During these games he has hit 50+ in 2 of the four games, which would provide sufficient value. As noted above this is also an elite matchup for Green with Melbourne giving up the second most points in the league to midfielders.
Jesse Hogan (DS $8,020, DK $4,400)
Hogan is at a nice value price on this slate after slowly returning to football post an extended lay off. In his first game back, he showed he can hit value at this price point posting a 58 point game. He draws one of the top matchups in the league for his position on this slate against North Melbourne who have conceded the fourth most fantasy points for the position this season.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Nathan Fyfe (DS $13,110, DK $6,900)
It is time to uncork this vintage pinot after a string of disappointments fantasy performances has resulted in price deductions across the platforms. While Fyfe is spending a significant portion of his game time playing forward, he should still hit value on this slate, while also having the possibility of a ceiling game. Fremantle are almost 2 goal favourites and give up points to midfielders and forwards, the two positions that Fyfe will spend playing the entirety of the game.
Luke Davies-Uniacke (DS $9,230, DK $4,900)
Youngster Davies-Uniacke has started to show this year why North Melbourne used a high draft pick on. He has been getting plenty of opportunity in the middle attending over 70% of the Kangaroos center bounces in each of the last 4 games. In the most recent game, he posted a season high 78 points and has a relatively positive matchup against Fremantle.
Zac Williams (DS $11,970, DK $6,200)
Love the price and the matchup. We can’t just lob in all the top 3 salary based players from GWS, but Williams has shown massive upside over his time and at this reduced price point with a season high score of 90 points in the short quarters this year. Melbourne have given up the fourth most points to defenders this year, which makes this a plus matchup for Williams.
Blake Acres (DS $10,530, DK $5,400)
Acres has finally started to show flashes of the expectations Fremantle had on him coming into the season prior to it was interrupted with injuries. We all saw at the Bulldogs when he was played in the right position he could go bananas and we have seen evidence of this over the last two games where he owned the wing and posted 108 and 79 fantasy points respectively. This is one of the easiest matchups of the year for the Dockers and if it blows out expect Acres to chase the cheap +6’s with the best of the,
PREMIUM PLAYS
Tim Taranto (DS $14,590, DK $7,300)
Taranto has his role through the middle secured now after returning from injury and this has led to two scores of 90+ over the past three games. His upside is massive and on this slate, he is playing Melbourne who have given the second most points to the position this year (behind only Adelaide). If the Giants can get this game out of reach early expect a total junk fest from Taranto and GWS. Pairing him up with other GWS midfielders looks to be an elite stacking option.
