Vote for the All-Australian AFL DFS Team of 2019!
With the AFL season drawing to a close, it’s time for the usual round of awards and recognition for the game’s elite. We have the Coaches Association Award, various media awards, the coveted Brownlow Medal and the All-Australian team. Always a contentious debate in the media and the footy public, a blazer on All-Australian night is certainly a feather in a professional AFL player’s cap.
The team at Daily Fantasy Rankings do enjoy a good debate, so we thought why not take the All-Australian concept and apply it to the Australian DFS community by naming a 2019 All-Australian AFL DFS Team!
Of course, we do have the DFR Rankings to sort out a pecking order, but we believe we should reward members of the DFS community for more than just the amount of winnings earned. To make the AA AFL DFS side we considered overall presence and influence in the Australian DFS community, whether it’s on social media or the fantasy site’s chat boxes. We also looked at being “fair” by helping others in the community with content or data. Whilst we have named a few of the key members of the team, we want YOU the community to help us with picking the rest of the squad.
Six members are locked into the squad, so let’s call them the spine of the team. These members have consistently been at the top of the leaderboards and provided a presence in the community through their brilliant play and interactions with the community.
First of all, the Draftstars $200K Live final champion in ‘asanque’ is a lock in this side. His belt-winning efforts are not just a once off. Wins on Moneyball and Draftstars throughout the season on numerous occasions shows that he is a serious player in AFL DFS.
Number 1 ranked Australian DFS player in ‘jayk123’ (‘lamindor’ on Moneyball) has been the benchmark for DFS play in Australia. We could not forget the weekend on Moneyball when Jay went back-to-back-to-back in one of the most extraordinary efforts on the site.
Whilst his Sunday effort in Round 23 was the pinnacle, ‘RWhelan09’ has been a very strong player throughout the season on both sites in the AFL. Not a slate goes by without his username on the leaderboards.
The performance of ‘Mattylee’ in the AFL has been very strong and consistent throughout the season. Mattylee is also strong across most sports outside of AFL but when Matty plays AFL he does very well. Mattylee also has a great twitter presence and doesn’t mind posting plays.
‘Broady4_’ flew out of the gates at the start of the AFL season and never looked back. ‘Broady’ reached the pinnacle of the Daily Fantasy Rankings on the back of his AFL wins and has been a mainstay of leaderboards ever since. Worthy addition to the spine of the team.
The presence of ‘Chriseddy999’ on social media and on the Moneyball and Draftstars leaderboards is something you cannot miss. When Chris is hot, you can only stand back and applaud his achievements in AFL DFS. One of the sharpest players in the community and one to follow on social media.
Up for debate now is the remaining players in the All-Australian AFL DFS team. There's 12 spots remaining on the field and another four on the bench. Over the coming week, the readers of Daily Fantasy Rankings can vote in which members of the Australian DFS community they feel are most worthy of this honour. Do stay in contact with our Twitter polls in the next couple of days so you can vote in the best of the best.
To complement the team, we have also filled the commentary booth with four “media” fantasy players for their contributions to the Daily Fantasy Sports community for AFL content. These members through their commitment to the community have provided valuable insight and great value for all players across all websites. In the commentary booth are the following:
Stats Insider and Fantasy Insider team of ‘Roody’ and ‘Hedge’ for providing written, podcasts and social media content in the AFL world. Daily Fantasy’s Rankings own ‘smatho10’ for providing a face for the “regular joe” punter in the community, and recognition to ‘Parks12’ for his contribution to chat boxes on the fantasy sites. Parks12 has been rewarded with his own chat box on Draftstars and hosts a popular contest for the AFL (The Plastic Cup) each week.
So who will make the 2019 team? Who will miss out? And exactly like in the AFL, who missed selection in the first place? Let us know through our Twitter account and get voting on the All-Australian AFL DFS team for 2019!
