Solo Sunday in Round 13 heads to Canberra, where at 4:05pm the Canberra Raiders (10th) play host to the Sydney Roosters (6th). Both teams seem to be trending up in overall form, but Origin representatives mean that both are compromised for this game.

Draftstars has a $10,000 contest with $970 to first place. There are also several other contests including the Mini, Micro, and the High Roller.

Overview

The ladder position reflects the difference in class between these two teams, and I’d say the odds are a very fair reflection of this game. It’s close enough to call it an even game and not bother stacking heavily in either direction.

Love It - Xavier Savage & Joey Manu $9000 & $19,090

Both fullbacks deserve to be highlighted this week. I went hard on Savage last week and only got 21 points in return, but the talent is undoubtedly there. Still at minimum price and with his team a chance of springing an upset, I think we just keep piling into this future star and wait for the results to come. Manu always scores better moving into fullback or halves roles, going from a 45 to a 55 scorer. His price is up already after a purple patch over the last couple of months, but it’s still a bit lower than we normally see for Tedesco who scores at a similar level in the role.

Love It - Sam Walker $13,450

Picking out a HH on this slate is tight. Frawley is pretty cheap, Keary is growing into his halfback role, and all of the 4 hooking options have merit but are getting unpredictable minutes. Walker sits the best for me with the price about right, but enough 55+ upside to become an excellent value. I’ll be spreading my exposures around fairly evenly at the position, but Walker is the one that falls in the sweet spot of price, upside and sheer talent.

Love It - Corey Horsburgh $15,500

Horsburgh has played 40-45 minutes off the bench all season so far, and has perhaps been one of the underrated players in the competition while averaging 41. Now he gets to step into the shoes of Josh Papalii, where an extra 10 mins and 7-9 points is the likely result. With a 20% discount on Papalii’s usual price, I think this is a very clear value that is unlikely to go too far wrong for us.

Hate It - Jamal Fogarty $19,640

Fogarty is a solid player, but he got MORE expensive after scoring 30 points in his first game of the season last week. Needing to score 75+ to be relevant, and no stranger to an injury, it’s hard to find a way to get excited about playing him. Wighton out might add some slight appeal, but as I said above I think Frawley can cover most of Wighton’s responsibilities in terms of kicking and defence, so Fogarty’s role will be pretty normal.

Hate It - Elliot Whitehead $13,040

I’m going to pick on an old guy, despite his price being very reasonable. Whitehead has averaged 40 in the last 5 weeks, which is about in line with his career average at the position. However, he’s 33 this year and averaging 36 on the season (playing a middle role in the earlier weeks), and I’m happy to fade on the basis that he’s needed tries to put up competitive scores. If the Roosters can stop him breaking the line, a score in the 30s is highly likely.

Who Knows - Tom Starling & Zac Woolford $16250 & $9700

Both teams have interesting hooker rotations where the “main” hooker starts on the bench, comes on after 20-30 minutes and plays out the game. However, last week that didn’t pan out for the Raiders when the new guy in Woolford played the first 55 minutes before Starling came on the close out the game. With no apparent reason for the change, it looks like Ricky Stuart may have decided that Woolford can offer something to the team. Either that or Starling was unwell or something. It’s enough for me to think we avoid Starling and consider taking a shot at Woolford who could go closer to 40 points a week if the role continues.
