Fantasy Overview

Overview: Once again a nice wide open slate with various angles from which to attack. The most obvious is the red hot Roosters, but really they’ve beaten up on a couple of average teams and now have to face an actual good team, so it could be closer than the odds suggest. Next up is the Dragons off a decent win, who could be written off as unlikely to back it up. I like some of their options quite a lot, but a contrarian Titans stack could also be in play. The Tigers and Cowboys are both middling teams, and this one is close to a coin flip. That means there could be an opportunity to stack either side and get a jump on the pack.

 

WFB: Matt Dufty $9,750 is coming off a big game. The price has gotten a little steep, but looked like he’d been given a license to play some footy. Robert Jennings $7,700 is an interesting option in the Tigers game. He likes to rack up tackle breaks, and could get not the end of a couple of tries if the Tigers get on top. The Roosters wingers, Brett Morris $9,020 and Daniel Tupou $9,060, have both been priced up a little, but are still in play if you think the Roosters demolish the Eels. I expect it will be closer, and I give the incredibly cheap Blake Ferguson $7,500 a decent chance of hitting value and being a good play. Clint Gutherson $8,330 remains cheap and is playing very well, a safe play if that is what you’re looking for.

 

CTR:  Euan Aitken $9,580 didn’t quite get it done last week, this is the perfect time to jump on when he’s still too cheap and has an easier matchup. BJ Leilua $8,940 and Moses Mbye $7,390 are both very cheap, and both due for a big game. I like Mbye at hopefully very low ownership. On the other side of the field Esan Marsters $9,070 is also too cheap, and nearly as good of a play. Waqa Blake $7,190 is still minimum priced after a nice game last week, but I’ll be staying away as I don’t like his chances running at Josh Morris.

 

HALF: The Dragons reshuffle should suit Corey Norman $11,320 perfectly. He’s cheap, and he’ll be racking up plenty of kick metres. If he can also get some attacking points, he should be a great play. Other great options are Jake Clifford $9,490 and Scott Drinkwater $9,940. Both young guys that can really play, who just haven’t got it done lately. The Cowboys have some issues, but so do the Tigers, and I can see either of those guys putting up a big score.

 

2RF: Tyrell Fuimaono $8,900 didn’t do the job last week, but I’m going back to the well. He should be able to score around 40 in 60 minutes, which would just be enough. But wait a minute, now I’ve seen the price on Luke Garner $9,800! Wow! He’s done nothing this year, but he’s a talented player and has to be considered. Mitch Dunn $8,470 was solid last week and remains super cheap, so if he starts over Cooper again I don’t mind his value prospects. Looking at some more premium players, Angus Crichton $15,000 looks like the Rabbitohs version of himself again, and Nathan Brown $11,610 should be better for the hitout last week and has a big role to play in trying to beat the Roosters. 

 

HOK: Cam McIness $19,620 is threatening Payne Haas as an 80 minute, 80 point phenom this season. Just like I said this was the week to fade Haas (correctly), I also think this is probably the week to take a pass on McIness, that price is just crazy. Instead I like Harry Grant $15,100, who looks like the next great hooker and should get the 80 minutes again to show what he can do. That means 60+ points is a very strong possibility. If not him, Reece Robson $11,980 is a bit cheaper and he his working his way into an increasingly prominent role for the Cowboys. Hampton on the bench isn’t overly threatening for him, and he can get up well over 50 if all goes well. 

 

FRF: Taukeiaho $10,000. I didn’t want to attempt his first name. He’s cheap, and surely getting back towards full fitness. I like him a lot in this one. Francis Molo $10,620 is still good value thanks to the Mclean injury. Those two will form the basis of a lot of my lineups. Josh Kerr $9,000 and Reagan Campbell-Gillard $9,800 are two other options I could take a punt on, but really I think I’ll lock in the safe value on this position.

 

Final Word: Like I said, it’s a wide open slate, consider that a license to be creative and try to find a different avenue to the top than the pack. It should be a really fun slate, good luck!
