The NFL season just keeps chugging along, and we’ve now arrived at Week 13. Continuing the mid-season trend, Week 12 was a week where the obvious plays tended to fail, and the winning scores were not particularly high. Draftstars gives us another $30,000 prize pool, with $2,666 to first place. The continued interest this far into the season is fantastic to see. Also new to this week on Draftstars is the ‘Late Monday’ x10 slate if you want to get involved in the late slate. Let’s get into some plays.

Make sure you tune in on Sunday from midday as the Draftstars NFL Show will be available on our YouTube page and on Draftstars social platforms! A replay of the show will be in this preview - so tune in for the latest news and Draftstars plays!

Questionable

Quarterback

Tom Brady ($16,410)

My QB section looks exactly the same as last week, although it could be a little less chalky this time as both players failed badly. Brady continued his mid-season slump, although this time it has less to do with throwing intercepts and more to do with Leonard Fournette having the best game of his life and hogging all the points for himself. A cupcake matchup with the Falcons is a great opportunity to get the ball moving through the air again, and despite being priced up I like Brady a little more than the rest of the top of the board.

Trevor Lawrence ($10,170)

I was going to write up Jalen Hurts again, but an ankle issue and doubts about his real-life football ability is enough for me to look elsewhere this week. Getting away from the top of the board, I’m interested in having a shot at the #1 overall pick who has failed to do any better than his 25-point outing in week 1. It’s been pretty bad since then, as has the Jags as a whole, but he will have to flash some of his undoubted pedigree at some point. With a little rushing ability, a stack with Marvin Jones could have a ceiling in a matchup with a Rams outfit that has been less imposing in recent times.

Running Back

Elijah Mitchell ($11,850)

After the best game of his career, the young 49er gets another nice matchup with the struggling Seahawks to continue to flash his ample talents. He’s been so impressive that the team seems to have moved away from their long-time committee approach to let him get the ball as often as possible. With the price yet to catch up to his newfound ceiling, Mitchell presents as the best value at the position.

Jonathan Taylor ($18,110)

The other young RB dominating this season is of course Taylor, who for the first time is the most expensive option on the slate. Despite that, we should be able to fit him in this week without too much trouble, so I am looking to capitalise on his massive ceiling in a fantastic matchup with the Texans. It feels like another safe 20 points, with 40+ well within the rage of outcomes unless the Texans sell out everything just to try to slow him down.

Jamaal Williams ($11,240)

This isn’t the position overflowing with minimum priced options this week, with the players with elevated roles such as Williams and Mattison being priced up in anticipation by Draftstars. Nevertheless, Williams still looks very much in play with D’Andre Swift out, in a potentially bruising divisional matchup with the Vikings. He can handle the ample passing game work that Swift has been getting, as well as any goal line work that the Lions can manage to create for him. I prefer Elijah Mitchell for a little more, but it’s close enough to consider both.

Wide Receiver

DeAndre Carter ($6,000)

I’m surprised Carter is minimum price after stringing together a number of 5+ target games in recent weeks and scoring TDs in 3 of his last 4. Injuries to the likes of Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown have allowed a bigger role, but Carter has done a nice job of making plays and perhaps holding onto the workload now that others are returning. In an okay matchup with the Raiders, I think Carter is clearly too cheap for the role we’ve been seeing.

Cooper Kupp ($18,530)

It’s been a while since his string of slate-winning scores, but Kupp is still the King of this fantasy season and very much in play at his massive salary. Thanks to a number of viable plays at minimum price, we can jam in the high ceiling guys like Kupp & Taylor, without compromising too heavily. The Jaguars matchup is a perfect opportunity for the Rams to get things moving again, and with the running game a little banged up I think Kupp is clearly the most likely avenue to success this week.

Josh Reynolds ($6,000)

Given it looks like a good week for an extreme studs & duds build, I’m going with another minimum priced receiver who has fallen into a bigger role thanks to his team being awful. Last week was actually Reynolds first game with the Lions, and he made the most of it with 70 yds and a TD for 16 points. While the volume isn’t huge, I do expect that Reynolds will become the preferred target for Jared Goff, especially on deep shots. The divisional matchup with the Vikings could turn into an entertaining game if the Lions are forced to try to keep up.

Tight End

Foster Moreau ($8,030)

With Darren Waller doubtful, Moreau could step into a much bigger role in an offense that is already short on bodies. That could mean similar volume to the top salaries at the position, from a player who has shown a bit in his rare opportunities. It looks like such a good play against a middling Washington defence that I’m not even going to write up another TE, especially given the pricing is pretty tight this week.

D/ST

Miami Dolphins ($6,080)

This is a rare week where I feel quite good about my DST pick, with the Dolphins having rebounded nicely as the team has gotten healthier, and providing some salary relief from the top options. Going against the Giants who will be fielding Mike Glennon at QB and a banged up offense in general, it looks like a great spot to feast on turnovers.
