Shriners open

TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nevada is the host course for the next PGA Tour event the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The usual November date for the event has been bumped up to October and is just a short hop from last week's event in the Napa Valley. The course has hosted this event since 2008 and it is a relatively average par 71, 7,255 yard course. The three par 5’s are gettable for Birdie scoring and the course does give up some small par 4’s. Usual winning score has been around the high teen mark and this week’s weather update shows low winds and fine conditions. Alas another event where Birdies are the key and getting golfers through the cut is essential.

As each week of the new Tour season continues, the field gets better in quality. This week we see 2017 event winner, Patrick Cantlay along with the debut from Brooks Koepka for the new season. 2018 winner in Bryson Dechambeau is here to defend his title along with Top 20 golfers in Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Tony Finau and Gary Woodland.

According to Rotogrinders.com this week’s key statistics to look for include:

Key Statistics (In Order of Importance)

1) Birdie or Better %

2) Strokes Gained Approach

3) Strokes Gained Off the Tee

4) Greens in Regulation

5) Bogey Avoidance

For the Fantasy Sites, DraftKings have posted a $250,000 Best Ball with $50,000 to 1st place. For Draftstars we have a $5,000 contest for a $15 entry and a 3-ball Best Ball as well.

Note this is a very late lock time of 2340 AEST so you have plenty of time to participate without any other sports in the way.

For this 'Swing Season' I'm going to be posting suggested lineups and expand on these selections each week. As a disclaimer, I like to play around 3-5 lineups for DFS golf and these teams will be one of them. I’ll keep a tally on whether these made a return over the next couple of months. Hopefully make some pocket money if I want to head to the President’s Cup in Melbourne!

Well I am 3 for 3 so far on Draftstars and 0 for 3 on Draftkings! Last week I was only 4 out 6 getting through with Matsuyama having a rare missed cut. But to score with Corey Conners for Top 20 (T13th) meant more pocket money! Although I really need to lift over on DraftKings! The side on Draftstars also missed the cash line by half a point in the Single Entry!

By now you can see a pattern between the two sites where you can easily build a more 'studded' lineup on Draftstars compared to DraftKings. I do however, have a core of four golfers in Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Scottie Scheffler and Doc Redman

Patrick Cantlay is clearly my number 1 choice this week and you will need to pay the hefty price tag on DraftKings to get him. 2nd in the event last year and 1st in 2017 means he does have the best course history. 6th in the field for % Birdies and better along 12th in the field for SG: Off the Tee and 13th SG: Approach means I have high expectations here in Vegas.

For Tony Finau, the only query I have is that he has been playing in Europe for the past fortnight. However, he has never missed a cut at this event and has finished higher than T45 each time. 17th in the field for SG Approach and Off the Tee combined.

Scottie Scheffler did miss last week at the Safeway, but the way he is going, he can certainly miss a couple of events now. T7 and T16 to start the year and the Salary on Draftstars and DraftKings make me him a great play. Although the season is short so far, Scheffler stats are popping in this field. 1st in SG combined Off the Tee and Approach along with 1st in Birdie of Better %. Sure we might get regression but I am still with Scottie for now!

Doc Redman is my salary saver, especially on Draftstars. Redman did miss the cut last week at the Safeway which hopefully means the ownership falls away. 9th in the field for SG: Approach and 12th for Greens in Regulation. And at $6,500 on DraftKings and $8,860 on Draftstars it is a steal if he can make the weekend.

The rest of my Draftstars lineup are sure and steady with Webb Simpson and last week’s runner up in Adam Hadwin. With plenty of cash left over from my core four, you could play around with the final two spots in your lineups. For DraftKings, the salary is much tighter, so i've selected Daniel Berger and Xinjun Zhang. I have the salary to get up to Sebastian Munoz but I have gone down to Daniel Berger who was T23 at the Safeway with am impressive score of 66 on Saturday. I am throwing a dart at Xinjun Zhang at $6,400 after finishing T7 last week at the Safeway. Was impressive on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and might see his name in the headlights more often.
