The U.S. Open is the third major of the golfing calendar in 2019 and will attract the best players in the world to the famous Pebble Beach Golf Links in California. Back to back defending Champion Brooks Koepka will be attempting to win his third straight U.S. Open title and his second straight major after taking out the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black last month.

A 7,075 yard, Par 71, Pebble Beach is arguably the most famous public golf course in the United States and possibly the world. It is celebrating its 100^th since establishment this year and has offered some famous moments in its history.

The course annually hosts the AT&T Pro-Am, which was won by Phil Mickelson earlier in the year by three strokes over Englishman Paul Casey. Generally, the Pebble Beach layout is fairly forgiving for the AT&T event as a 6,800 yard, Par 72. However, the United States Golf Association will have other ideas this weekend.

The course will play extremely firm and fast this weekend, which will make golf even tougher given the strong winds already coming off the Pacific Ocean. The rough will be much longer, thicker and more punishing for the U.S. Open, which has historically been the toughest test in golf throughout the PGA season.

Pebble Beach has arguably the smallest greens on tour and the fairways will be made thinner than normal this weekend. Strong players from tee to green and strong approach players from inside 175 yards will be our focus this weekend, while high percentage scramblers are also a target.

Rory McIlroy

So often this season daily fantasy players have been left with a decision at the top of the price list between three players. Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson or Rory MciIlroy. Nearly every team will have one of these three players in it this weekend and choosing the right one could be the difference. Johnson and Koepka have won the last three U.S. Open tournaments between them but we are optiong for Rory this weekend. His blew the field out of the water at the Canadian Open on the weekend and the stat that really stands out to us is shots gained off the tee, where he leads the enter PGA Tour this season.

Justin Thomas

After finishing T12 at The Masters, Thomas was forced to take some time off due to a wrist injury. He made his return at the Memorial Tournament a few weeks ago and looked a little rusty first up as he missed the cut. He bounced back last weekend at the RBC Canadian Open, however, as he shot seven under par and finished 20^th. The thing we loved about JT’s game on the weekend was his strokemaking. The major winner had an impressive 9.47 shots gained from tee to green, bettered by only the winner, Rory McIlroy over the four rounds.

Matt Kuchar

Kooch is becoming a bit of a plug and play in daily fantasy golf of late and could once again be the most selected player this week given his low price tag. The two time winner in 2019 was great at the Canadian Open on the weekend, finishing T2 behind Rory McIlroy and is just about the most consistent player on tour at the moment. Plug him in the middle of your line-up and forget about him.

Brandan Grace

As we scroll down the list and hunt some more value, one name pops out and that’s South African Branden Grace. Although it is held at a different course every year, players who play well at the U.S. Open generally continue to play well under the toughest golf conditions.Grace’s last four finishes at the U.S. Open read 4^th, 5^th, 50^th and 25^th, making the cut on all four occasions. He was also impressive at the AT&T this season, finishing T25.

Si Woo Kim

The Korean isn’t the strongest player off the tee but it’s hard to falter his iron play. At any U.S. Open, birdies are hard to come by so you have to take advantage of the Par 5’s. There are only a few players on tour better at doing so than Kim. Ranks 11^th overall in that category while ranking highly in scrambling as well.
