Fantasy Horse Racing Tips: Saturday August 10th 2019
Racing on Saturday is from Flemington in Melbourne and Rosehill in Sydney. Persistent rain in Melbourne, including on raceday, will mean the Flemington track will be deep into the Soft range and it will be worth keeping an eye out for a track pattern as riders may elect to come wide as the meeting goes on. Horses at Rosehill will be greeted with a Good track after a period of fine weather. With the rail back into the true position it should be a perfect setup for all horses to have their chance. The Group 3 Aurie’s Star is the feature at Flemington whilst at Rosehill only 5 horses will line up in the Group 2 Missile Stakes.
SportChamps is the leading provider of fantasy horse racing tournaments and they offer a range of tournaments to suit all budgets. This Saturday there is a $5,000 guaranteed tournament covering the metro meetings for $50 entry with 1 rebuy, as well as a no re-buy $5,000 guaranteed tournament for metro meetings also. For those that are time-poor or are looking for an early win, they run consecutive hour-long tournaments across a range of races, spanning all 3 codes as they carry on later into the night. This week there will also be a guaranteed $5,000 tournament for a small $5 entry, giving everyone an excellent chance at a huge collect for such a small entry.
Moneyball also offer a vast range of tournaments, albeit slender rule variations, there is still plenty of prize money up for grabs. Despite the slightly smaller fields, options are a plenty for those wanting to play tournaments and we recommend you try out the different sites and options to find out which ones work for you.
Draftstars have introduced a new way to have a bet at the track with their 'Rapidfire'. These are two ways to play Rapidfire: With Rapidfire 3, you need to pick at least 3 out of 5 winning horse match-ups. For this game type, you get a return of 1.8x your entry fee. If you really back yourself, try Rapidfire 5. Pick all 5 winning horse match-ups correctly to win. For this game type, you get a return of 20x your entry fee.
Saturday's Best Bets
12:10pm Flemington – Race 2
We kick things off in the second event at Flemington where a number of lightly raced 3yos do battle. I am happy to be with Heirborn from the Anthony Freedman stable who was an impressive winner of a maiden at Bendigo on debut. On that occasion he settled just off midfield before pulling to the centre of the track and running on strongly to win. The time was good for the day and it looked the win of a horse with more to come. Ben Melham jumps into the saddle and the rise in distance to 1400m and the big track at Flemington look ideal. He looks a good way to start the day at $3.70 with PointsBet.
3:15pm Flemington – Race 7
The mares line up here, and it looks a race with a clear standout in My Pendant from the Danny O’Brien stable. She was first up last start and ran a good 2nd to the smart Sylvia’s Mother over 1200m at Flemington. The rise to 1400m here looks ideal and she is a horse that could be competitive in stakes races through the Spring against a group of horses that have pretty much reached their mark. She gains the services of gun jockey Damien Oliver and looks to map well around midfield. It looks a great race for her, and she is currently $2.00 with BetEasy.
3:35pm Rosehill – Race 7
The seventh event on the card at Rosehill is over 2000m and it looks an even race on paper, however I think there looks a standout in the David Payne trained Costello. He comes off a last start 2nd behind the in from Dr Drill at Randwick over 1800m with subsequent winner Matowi in 3rd place. On that occasion he settled around midfield before getting shuffled back and held up at a crucial stage. Once clear he ran on well for 2nd in a performance that shows he has his hoof on the till. The rise to 2000m looks suitable as does getting back on to a dry track. There looks to be good speed in the race, and he should be able to settle around midfield. Providing he gets the luck he will be mighty hard to hold out and looks a good bet at $3.50 with Sportsbet.
3:55pm Flemington – Race 8
The penultimate race of the day at Flemington is the feature, the Aurie’s Star Handicap down the straight over 1200m. It has brought together an interesting mix of the tough, fit horses that have been racing through the Winter against the horses just beginning their campaigns with possible loftier goals down the track. I am happy to side with the fit horses and have landed on Malibu Style who is racing in excellent form including a win over this track and distance two starts ago after blowing the start. At his most recent start he settled further back than usual before taking tight runs to finish 4th in a bunched finish at Caulfield. Damien Lane takes the ride and the horse has since had a very impressive jump out win. It’s hard to see him not being in the finish and the $8.00 with BetEasy looks a nice price. The other horse that is worth having something on is Milwaukee from the Mike Moroney yard. He has a great record down the straight, draws out where it looks the best spot to be and drops nicely in weight from recent assignments. Damien Oliver takes the ride and he is another that it’s hard to see not being in the finish. He is currently $7.50 with Neds.
4:35pm Flemington – Race 9
The final event of the day at Flemington looks an open affair for the middle distance horses over 1720m. Dr Drill is the early favourite and looks a good hope but is just a bit too short in the market currently. I am happy to go with the Mark Kavanagh trained Kentucky Breeze. He was a winner at this track over 1600m two starts ago before an unlucky effort in running 3rd last week at Moonee Valley where he was held up at a crucial stage after drawing barrier 1. He won’t have such issues on Saturday having drawn the outside gate in the field of 14 however that should suit as he has shown a real dislike for racing inside horses in the past and by this time of the day I expect sitting wide to be of no disadvantage. I expect him to race on speed and be in the finish. He looks a good bet at $11 with Sportsbet.
