Osborne Bulls

The Championships are done and dusted for another year and for many of us, we got to witness the last ever run of the greatest horse we will ever get to see in the mighty Winx (barring those like myself that don’t like to compare apples and oranges and have a soft spot for another great mare in Black Caviar). Despite all that, there is still plenty of group racing on this weekend, headlined by the Group 1 Champagne Stakes and All Aged Stakes at Randwick. The track is expected to be a relatively dry once again with fine weather expected in Sydney for the remainder of the week. The rail goes out 6m from the mile to the winning post, playing advantage to those drawn inside and up on the pace during the short and middle distance races.

SportChamps is the leading provider of fantasy horse racing and they offer a range of tournaments to suit all budgets. Their major tournaments are run on a Saturday with rebuy and no-rebuy options across the major metropolitan venues. This Saturday there is a $7,500 guaranteed tournament covering Randwick and Caulfield for $50 entry with 1 rebuy as well $7,500 guaranteed for an all horse racing tournament at the cost of just $50 also with the 1 rebuy. For those that have commitments during the Easter break, they run consecutive hour-long tournaments across a range of races, spanning all 3 codes as they carry on later into the night. They also offer free entry tournaments, giving those new to fantasy tournaments an excellent chance to get the hang of it without any financial risk.

SportChamps

Moneyball and TopBetta also offer a vast range of tournaments with plenty of prize money up for grabs. Despite the slightly smaller fields, options are aplenty for those wanting to play tournaments and we recommend you try out the different sites and options to find out which ones work for you. To give you the best opportunity this weekend, we have assembled our best bets, including our main chances at both feature Randwick and Caulfield meetings.

Doomben Race 2 – Peachester Lodge 2yo Plate – 1200m

Looking to kick off the day with something from left field in a sprint between the juveniles over 1200m. Race favourites Gem Of Scotland and Howwonderfullifeis both come out of the Spirit Of Boom Handicap, where Gem Of Scotland made it a hatrick of wins to begin her career. The Rex Lipp trained filly gets a 4kg pull in the weights, but it must be noted the saddle slipped on her rival and she was quite unlucky not to win. Both runners are deserved favourites but are a little short for mine. Debutant Perfect Quality kicks of his campaign after a couple wins at the trials in which he showed plenty of natural ability despite looking very green. Expect McGillivray to look to sit up on the pace and if he is good enough, he can cause a real stir here. An excellent each-way chance to kick off your Saturday. Currently you can get $19 at Sportsbet.

Randwick Race 6 – Moet & Chandon Champagne Stakes – 1600m

The Champagne Stakes kicks off the Group 1’s, with the key lead-up being the Inglis Sire’s from a fortnight ago. Race favourites Loving Gaby and Castelvecchio both finished in the placings out of that race, with the latter hitting the line nicely behind 2yo star, Microphone. Crystal Falls was the runner that really caught my eye in this and should relish getting out to the mile. After missing the start considerably, the John Sargent trained filly was forced to take inferior ground along the rail in the straight. One of only a few to run on against the rail all day, Crystal Falls was well beaten but managed to find herself well in front 200m past the post. Loving Gaby heads into this as a deserved favourite but given both favourites are now getting deep into their preps, Crystal Falls looks an excellent each-way play here. Currently you can get $17 at BetEasy.

Randwick Race 7 – Schweppes All Aged Stakes – 1400m

In what is probably one of the best All Aged Stakes fields assembled, expect the form out of The TJ Smith to be key heading into this. Le Romain and Siege of Quebec come out of the Doncaster Mile, while Charlie Appleby brings over Godolphin import, D’Bai, who has had plenty of success over the trip. Osbourne Bulls has placed in all but 1 of his 17 starts to date and looks an excellent chance to win again here. The Cummings-training gelding had plenty of excuses in the TJ Smith before finding inferior ground in the straight. Coming up against Pierata and Champagne Cuddles once again, it is just about D-Day for Osbourne Bulls who should take plenty of upside from that run. The only concern for Bowman is dealing with getting stuck back on the rail, but with clean air, he is the one to beat for those looking to anchor late in the tournament. Currently you can get $2.70 at Neds.

Caulfield Race 7 – Le Pine Funerals Easter Cup – 2000m

The Easter Cup looks set for another interesting rendition with a wide-open field to contest over a mile and a quarter. With many coming out of the Bendigo Golden Mile and the Le Pine Funerals Handicap, plenty had excuses, but none more so than race favourite Plein Ciel. The Anthony Freedman trained gelding could very well bounce back here, but is awfully short getting out in trip, needing plenty of favours. Furrion is another that is capable of far more than his last run would suggest, but it is Odeon that sets-up nicely here. The 5-year-old gelding should get a nice sit up on the pace and look primed to strike getting in very light at the weights. The main concern for the Ellerton & Zahra trained runner is that he has had his chances, this is grand final day and expect them to have him tip top leading into this. Currently you can get $6.50 at Pointsbet.
