Fantasy Horse Racing Tips: Saturday 21st March 2020
All eyes will be on Rosehill in Sydney this week for their premier meeting of the season, Golden Slipper Day. The Slipper is of course the headline event but is ably supported by a further four Group 1 races. Last weekend saw them race in very heavy conditions at Rosehill but with fine weather for the majority of the week we will see a drying track that should be just into the Soft range. Due to the Coronavirus, patrons are not permitted to attend the track, however there are still nine winners to be found on this bumper card.
There is plenty of fantasy racing action on Saturday on Australia’s leading fantasy betting platform SportChamps. SportChamps offer a range of tournaments to suit all budgets and different styles of contests. For those who do not have much time you can get into the “Quickies” or put your selections on at the start of the day in the “Bet N’ Go” tournament. But the big fish is the $7,500 Saturday No Rebuy Metro tournament. SportChamps have also posted the “Gimme Five” which is a $5 entry for a $5,000 pool. This tournament has 5 re-buys. And for those who do not want to tackle the leaderboard but confident on the punt, then “Targets” are the way to go!
Draftstars new racing product “Draftstars Racing” is available for the Rosehill meeting with a $10,000 prize pool for a $15 entry. A $2 mini is also available and various Head to Head and 6-man contests are available. If you have not played Draftstars Racing before, check out our “How to Guide” here.
Let’s have a look at our racing tips for the card at Rosehill today:
The $2-4 range (Take it to the Bank)
Race 5 on the card is one of the main events on the day, the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m. It brings together a decent field with a few 3yos thrown in to add some intrigue. I am quite keen on Te Akau Shark who comes off an uber impressive last start win in the Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick. On that occasion he settled well back in the field in a race that was run at a slow tempo before unleashing a huge finish to overhaul the leaders in closing stages. He ran the fastest last 600, 400 and 200 of the meeting that day showing just how powerful he can be at the end of his races. The likely soft conditions are no issue for him, and I think he will be too good for his opposition again. He is currently $2.20 but expect that this price to come in.
The $4-8 range (Good areas here)
The Group 1 Rosehill Guineas over 2000m for the 3yos is the sixth event of the day and brings together some of the best staying 3yos in the land. Many of these are coming through a last start run in the Randwick Guineas which was won by Shadow Hero. Shadow Hero lines up here again as favourite and no doubt will be tough to beat but I’m happy to give the Anthony Freedman trained Warning another chance up in distance. He ran 5th, beaten a couple of lengths in the before mentioned Randwick Guineas where he wasn’t ideally suited by the slow speed and being buried on the fence. He is drawn barrier 1 again here but I would expect him to settle closer to the lead and having greater opportunity to move into the race when he wants. Damien Oliver jumps back in the saddle and he has only ridden the horse once which resulted in a dominant win in the Victorian Derby in the Spring. Warning is presently around $6.50.
Selection in the $8-$15 range (Hashtag Value)
The penultimate race at Rosehill is the Group 1 Galaxy for the speedsters over 1100m and given the big field it looks to be a wide-open betting race. I am going to side with the James Cummings trained Deprive who will be giving the leaders a start but has a big finish on him given the right run. He was a last start 5th behind the flying Nature Strip over 1000m in a race where he ran off his legs early before making good ground late once the race was over. He ran the fastest last 400 and 200 of the race but as mentioned was left with too much work to do. He drops significantly in weight for this and the slight rise in distance will be to his benefit. His second up stats are excellent having not missed the top 2 in four runs and the sting out of the track will be no issue. He is currently around the $10 mark.
Selection in the $15+ range (Knockout blow)
Race 7 is the feature event of the day, the Group 1 Golden Slipper for the 2yos over 1200m. This year is a most open event with no youngster really stamping themselves as the best of the crop throughout the season. Given this I am happy to look outside the market a bit and go with Away Game from the Maher & Eustace stable. She has been a most durable filly throughout the season having already raced in Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales in her five-start career. She was the winner of the rich Magic Millions in January on the Gold Coast and comes off a last start 4th in the Blue Diamond at Caulfield where she put in a big performance after being caught wide on a fast speed on a day where if you weren’t racing on the fence then it severely hindered your chances. She is already a winner in Sydney having won at Randwick prior to her Blue Diamond run so that holds no fears for her and she maps to get a nice run just off the leaders here for big race jockey Glen Boss. She is worth a gamble at around $18.
