The 2019 Formula 1 season reaches the most important part of the year, with the French Grand Prix, the first of 7 races in Europe, which also includes the summer break, taking place this weekend at the Circuit Paul Ricard.

Mercedes continued their undefeated run of F1 victories in 2019 at Canada in the last race, where Lewis Hamilton scored another victory and extended his lead in the Drivers Championship over his team mate Valtteri Bottas, who finished third at Canada. Sebastian Vettel finally got himself into the top 2 at the same race, but desperately needs a run of wins if he is to remain a chance of taking out the Drivers championship this year.

CONSTRUCTOR

When the race returned to Circuit Paul Ricard last year, it was Hamilton who won from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, with the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen in third place. In Qualifying, Mercedes locked out the front row. In the race, Mercedes finished with the win and a 7th place for Bottas. Red Bull finished 2nd and 4th while Ferrari came in with a 3rd and 5th. These three teams are expected to again dominate the top 6 here. Mercedes costs a lofty $32.5M but given they’ve had both drivers on the podium, with one as the winner, in all 7 races so far, that price is justified. Ferrari at $29.1M seems a tad high, especially when Red Bull are quite close to them on the track, but are worth $24.5M.

McLaren are running fourth in the Constructors race, but are quite cheap at $7.9M, making them very attractive. Renault arguably has the best driver line-up in the teams in the midfield and are worth $12.2M. They are also coming off their first race of the year where both drivers scored points (Finishing in 6th and 7th place at Canada).

DRIVERS

Championship leader Hamilton is the most expensive driver, worth $31.7M while his team mate Bottas, who is second in the drivers championship, is worth an attractive $22.2M. Vettel ($28.3M) and Verstappen ($25.0M) make up the top 4 in the championship so far.

Further back in the field, Carlos Sainz is the highest placed driver not in a Mercedes, Ferraro or Red Bull and is worth $8.3M. Next is Daniel Riccardo at $11.4M, however he started the season plagued by reliability issues but has finished in the points in his last two starts.

For a cheap option, Daniil Kvyat is priced at just $5.9M despite finishing in the top 10 in his last 3 races and 4 of his 5 completed races this year (he’s had 2 retirements as well).
