The 2019-20 EPL season continues this weekend with Matchday 9. We return after the international break with another 10-game slate of action on our doorstep. Matches begin on Saturday night and they don’t stop until Tuesday morning, so let’s get stuck into it!

Where to Attack

This is a fairly heavy slate so there’s a lot of ways you can attack, however, I’m pretty comfortable in recommending a few certain teams here. Firstly, I don’t mind Aston Villa players here as a cheap and POD angle. They get a look at Brighton who are coming off a big scalp and are vulnerable away from home. Secondly, Chelsea and Leicester players are lock and loads here as both sides will be out to score goals. And finally, the Wolves represent sneaky value at home against Southampton, especially after winning four on the spin in all competitions.

Here’s some great picks for the Saturday night slate!

Goalkeepers

There’s plenty to choose from between the sticks this weekend. Let’s start off with the big dogs. Chelsea are heavy favourites and I don’t mind Kepa Arrizabalaga ($13,880 DS / $5,900 DK) as a premium option, while Tottenham are fancied at home and I couldn’t be further away from Paulo Gazzaniga. Leicester’s Kasper Shmeichel ($13,200 DS / $5,700 DK) represents value at home, as does Wolverhamton’s Rui Patricio ($12,890 DS / $5,600 DK), while Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton ($11,370 DS / $4,900 DK) is another sneaky value play. For me, Wolves’ Patricio stands out and ill side with him for our team of the week.

Defenders

Same sort of thing here as with the goalkeepers, although we’ll try and find some more attacking defenders rather than centre defenders to give us a chance to go big. Obviously, there’s lots of Chelsea and Tottenham options, so let’s look at the less obvious plays. First up, I’m keen on the Wolves defenders, in particular Willy Boly ($9,860 DS / $3,500 DK) and Jonny ($9,860 DS / $4,700 DK). Also, I don’t mind some Leicester defenders at home, particularly Ricardo Pereira ($13,810 DS / $5,300 DK). Pereira is a really good play at DK at his generous price. Finally, Bournemouth and Aston Villa defenders are in play here, but make sure you’re targeting the full backs for maximum output. 

Midfielders / Strikers

Now, let’s get onto the attackers. Here, we don’t really care who wins or loses, so we’ll play the guys that are most likely to pick up points just for being on the pitch (although a goal or an assist always helps). City may not bang as many in as they usually do, so let’s look at the value guys once again. For me Jamie Vardy ($13,210 DS / $7,600 DK) is an absolute steal for Leicester at home. If he starts, then James Maddison ($12,240 DS / $8,800 DK) is in the same category. Otherwise, I’m looking at the extremely cheap Joshua King ($9,830 DS / $5,800 DK) who’s so due for a goal it’s not funny. Also, Chelsea’s Mason Mount ($9,480 DS / $9,100) is ridiculously priced at Draftstars, as is William ($11,020 DS / $9,600 DK) if he gets a start.
