Crunching Numbers: Sydney vs Geelong AFL Fantasy Lineup Tips
Round 16 of the 2018 AFL season kicks off this Thursday night with a blockbuster clash between Sydney and Geelong. The Cats will be keen to rebound after a heartbreaking loss last week to the Dogs, while the Swans will need to win here to stay in touch with the contenders at the top of the ladder.
Once again there’s some excellent AFL DFS contests on offer this Thursday for daily fantasy players. Moneyball have a $5,000 Guaranteed Special, PlayON are running qualifiers to their $100,000 Super Contest, while Draftstars have a massive $30,000 Guaranteed contest.
The Fantasy Boss stats gurus are back to give you a helping hand with your DFS lineups. They’ve crunched the numbers, looked at the matchups and found the best plays for you this Thursday!
Double Ruck
Both ruckmen have good match-ups here and with neither being a dominant tap ruckman there are plenty of hit-out points to be split between the two of them. This ruck situation can be taken advantage of by using Rhys Stanley’s dual position as a Forward as well as a Ruckman. Take Stanley as Forward and play Callum Sinclair as your Ruck for a double ruck combo that could produce plenty of points.
Midfield Match-Up
When looking at the Points Against trend, the battle of the big name midfielders looks evenly matched. Sydney rank dead last for conceding points against to the opposition’s top three scoring midfielders for the season and Geelong rank dead last for the same statistic over the last five games. This suggests that things could be tight in the midfield in this match.
Enter George Hewett.
Hewett will look to continue his tagging dominance against one of Geelong’s star midfielders. Coach John Longmire has previously tagged Joel Selwood with success and with the form he finds himself in, we would suggest Hewett goes his way.
Another interesting stat for the midfielders in this match is Luke Parker’s struggles at the SCG. Surprisingly, Parker averages just 83 at home in comparison to 102 away from home, so that’s something to keep in mind.
Jake Lloyd
Jake Lloyd has had an excellent season so far, with great consistency and high fantasy ceiling. So far this season, Lloyd has had 11 games of 80+ points, with four of those topping 120+. Add to this the fact that in their round 6 meeting against the Cats, Lloyd top scored with 120. Consider him as one of your premium choices on Draftstars for a price of $14,600.
Last week’s heroes
Last week we loaded up on the cheaply-priced Quinton Narkle, Cam Guthrie and Harry Taylor. They scored 88, 85 and 91 respectively and had many DFS coaches well on their way to a big score. Can they do it again?
This week won’t be as easy against Sydney and with their prices being adjusted it won’t be as clear cut. However, Guthrie still comes out at the top of our value projections (7.9x) and Narkle (7.6x) is not far behind. Taylor finds himself at the other end of page with a lowly-value projection of just 5.8x.
