BBL11 Fantasy Tips

UPDATED: After the events in the Brisbane Heat camp threw the BBL into a spin, for now the Brisbane Heat will host to the Sydney Sixers at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast. The Sixers got over the line in a low scoring thriller between these teams a week ago, and hold the upper hand with a 6-2 record on the season compared to the Heat's 3-5 ledger. The Sixers are backing up on the Gold Coast after the Scorchers got the call up yesterday. Now we have another day of waiting for squads and news as the ever changing tournament continues to deliver. As for the forecast, it looks okay, but there is some chance of rain impacting the game. The action kicks off at 9:05pm AEDT as this is the 2nd match of a double-header.

Once again, Draftstars has put up a $15,000 guaranteed contest, with a top prize of at least $1,132. There are also other great contests including the High Roller, Mini, Micro and various others to suit any budget.

Expected Sixers Xl: Phillipe, Vince, J Edwards, Henriques, Silk, Christian, Abbott, Kerr, Dwarshuis, Bird, O’Keefe

Expected Heat Xl: Really don't know yet - depends on who is available and likely replacements

There is no markets up on Wednesday morning due to the nature of circumstances but I'll be expecting the Sixers to be big favourites, and continue to show that they deserve their standing as tournament favourites. The fact that any player in the team can provide a match winning contribution in every game is very difficult for opponents to overcome. This is the last game of the season for James Vince, so the team will be hoping he can have an impact before he leaves. The Sixers on Wednesday morning named an unchanged 16-man squad. Shadab Khan cannot play due to quarantine requirements in Queensland.

Let's roll what we originally planned for Tuesday and we will update in due course: The Heat are trying to get more out of skipper Jimmy Peirson and youngster Max Bryant by switching them in the batting order, but so far neither has been able to get going. Duckett, Lynn and Heazlett can all give a quality innings, and the likes of Bazley, Bartlett and Wildermuth are proving to be massively underrated young allrounders in this format.

Love It - Moises Henriques ($16,600)

With six straight quieter games after two big ones to start the season, I simply feel that Henriques is too good of a player to not put up another big score soon. I’m happy to take the discount to Josh Phillippe given Henriques has a similar record at this level.

Love It - Jackson Bird ($12,300)

Bird returned to the Sixers side after a long injury layoff, bowling the three overs and just missing out on the economy bonus. Just took 1 wicket with the new ball. But with a late start on the Gold Coast tonight we might expect a bit of nibble or swing and Bird can score well in this format if the conditions suit.

Don’t Love It - Matt Kuhnemann ($10,700)

The Heat spinner is probably one of the lower profile players in this match, and his record is interesting with a handful of strong 50+ scores and the rest 8/14 career scores under 10. Boom/bust options like this are often good GPP plays, but this instance I’m worried because he’s been subbed out of the game for Jack Wildermuth in the last two games. Given how well Wildermuth has gone, that could easily happen again.

Don’t Love It - Jimmy Peirson ($8,800)

If opening again, Peirson will likely be massive chalk once again as a minimum priced player in the top order. The issue is that his form is very ordinary, and last game he was saved by getting a couple of dismissals in his keeping role. He could easily manage to get enough runs away to pay off, but I’m happy to fade the chalk in this instance.

Who Knows - Max Bryant ($11,500)

Like Peirson, Bryant is hard to trust on form alone. He’s always inconsistent, and now a move down the order will have the impact of reducing his ownership in a significant way. If the Sixers can take care of Lynn, Duckett & Heazlett relatively early, then Bryant could get plenty of time to try to put a decent innings together. It’s a pretty wild dart throw with safer options around, but Bryant will show off his talent again at some point this season.
