Sydney is currently in a spell of wet weather which hampered the Sixers last game against the Thunder on Saturday night. The forecast in Sydney on Monday is for high chance of showers with afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Just like on Saturday, monitoring the conditions and the Bat Flip takes on more importance in this match.

The Sixers will be forgetting the second edition of the Sydney Smash in a hurry after being rolled for 76 in the rain affected match. The Thunder had the ball talking in those bowling friendly conditions but three run-outs in an innings is pretty unacceptable for any side. The squad however remains unchanged from Saturday. Meanwhile everything is still rosy at the Melbourne Stars who strangled the Perth Scorchers run chase in pursuit of a low total of 142. In what could be described as one of the most surprising figures of the season, Nic Maddison snags 3 wickets to lead the Stars to victory. Nathan Coulter-Nile’s frequent flyer points take a hit as he has been rested for the trip to Sydney. Jackson Coleman returns to the 13 man squad.

The opening 4 batsman for the Sixers have been very fickle this season with Josh Philippe either making a stack of runs or failing very early. Daniel Hughes is trying his hardest but also fails more often than not. I am surprised there hasn't been much heat on James Vince’s performances this season? Only 2 scores of 30+ is pretty disappointing for a batsman at number 3. Moises Henriques is very good once he has faced 10 balls. Out of his 8 innings in BBL09 however, 3 of those are failures are reaching those 10 balls. Whereas the Sixers bowling attack has been very solid with paceman Dwarshius, Bird and, to some extent Tom Curran balance out well if their spin options of Lloyd Pope, Nathan Lyon and Steve O’Keefe. Not if it is too much of an issue but the Sixers have only bowled 5 overs in their past two games due to the weather.

The Stars were able to recover from the early loss of Marcus Stoinis in the game against the Scorchers with fellow opener Hilton Cartwright grinding out a well made 58no off 56 balls. As you would expect from a side that has won ten games, the Stars top-order are headlined by Stoinis and Maxwell. But coming to the fore now are contributions from Cartwright and Nick Larkin. The Stars do have issues with both Ben Dunk and Nic Maddinson who have come and gone into the side. A decision will need to be made soon before finals start on who is their number 3 batsman. Where as the bowling stocks are on fire at the moment. Took 19 wickets against the Scorchers in their back to back games. These wickets have been shared around the attack making it a headache for fantasy players to nail the correct selection.

In their earlier meeting in BBL09, Marcus Stoinis’ mammoth 147no was the difference between the two teams at the MCG. The Sixers pace attack went for plenty in the Stars total of 219. Whilst the SCG is traditionally a low scoring ground, the forecasted conditions should be the bowlers into this contest.

Batsman

Love It - Hilton Cartwright $12,700 Draftstars

Cartwright has made opening the batting his own for the Stars and his price on Draftstars is failing to catch up. 64, 99, 19 and 78 are his previous 4 fantasy scores whilst his salary has hovered around the $12k mark. The issue here though his previous ownership % have been 46, 61, 71 & 65 in those 4 contests. Whilst a must in single entry lineups, I would not go overboard with Cartwright in mass entry.

Don’t Love It - Nic Maddinson $11,400 Draftstars

Wow! Where did that 106 fantasy point effort come from against the Scorchers? Oh not from the bat. Putting this performance as a once in a blue moon, as he is still out of form when at the crease. If he does bowl, I expect the Sixers to go after Maddinson. Let other fantasy owners remind them on the volatility of Maddinson.

Who knows - Josh Philippe $15,700 Draftstars

Pretty much every team in the BBL has an opener that makes you or breaks you at the start of every innings. Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone and Alex Hales are perfect examples. Philippe can be added to these lot. Philippe’s last four fantasy scores include 121, 38, 7 and 1. Without Coulter-Nile and Haris Rauf, you can make a case that this Stars bowling attack is weak and Philippe could capitalise.

Bowlers

Love It - Nathan Lyon $14,600 Draftstars

The Sixers bowlers did not get much of a go on Saturday with the rain and Lyon’s small fantasy score came from the bat. At home on a spinning deck is right up Lyon’s alley here. His price is too good to ignore for a spinner at the SCG.

Don’t Love It - Jackson Coleman $13,700

Coleman finally broke into the Star’s side against the Scorchers in Perth and took Man-of-the-Match honours with the fantasy friendly figures of 3-16. The left-arm quick has been brought into the squad replacing the rested Coulter-Nile. I do not expect a repeat performance and will let owners chase the points.

Who Knows - Tom Curran $18,600 Draftstars

I didn’t believe that we had an all-rounder in this competition with wide fantasy scoring swings, but Curran fits the bill. Unlike premium all-rounders such as Glenn Maxwell who hav great fantasy floors, Curran either goes for so much runs off his bowling or takes 3 wickets with economy bonuses. Curran’s ceiling is exceptionally but predicting his output is very difficult. 1-58 off 4 overs last Curran played the Stars.
