BBL12 is approaching its climax and Sunday’s double header will go a long way to deciding who plays finals in this campaign.

The Scorchers are set to fight for the title alongside the Sydney Sixers, but for the Heat and Renegades today is about staying alive.

Draftstars have put up a heap of contests to suit every budget, including Qualifiers for the new Big Bash Star competition.

Here Josh Nevett will give his DFS tips for each encounter.

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars

Against all odds, recent results have left the Heat in a fantastic position to make the top five in BBL12.

As Brisbane have charged to three straight victories, the Thunder and Strikers have both stumbled badly, giving the Heat a clear run at finals qualification.

Consistent contributions across the board have been key to Brisbane’s success – while no individual has dominated, nearly all have played their part in the winning streak.

Labuschagne, Renshaw and Hain have been fantastic with the bat, while Michael Neser has taken 18 wickets as part of a bowling attack that competes until the very last ball.

On the other hand, the nightmare continues for the Stars, who have won just three of 12 games.

Without Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, the team in green has looked lost, and while the latter may return for this game it’s a case of too little, too late.

While Liam Hatcher, Beau Webster and Tom Rogers have given fans a few reasons to smile, ultimately the Stars have lacked the top end talent to make an impact on this tournament.

Heat vs Stars Fantasy Plays

Love It – Spencer Johnson ($11,600)

Johnson has burst onto the scene with some fantastic performances, averaging 42 DFS points in his first four matches. The left-arm speedster only produced 27 points in his previous outing against the Stars, but importantly notched up 64 points at home last start against the Hurricanes, an excellent return at this price point.

Don’t Love It – James Seymour ($8,800)

Seymour has been employed in the ‘finisher’ role for the Stars, batting down the order. While he has produced some decent cameos, the nature of his role limits his ceiling significantly. Therefore, even at minimum price, there is little to gain from rostering Seymour.

Who Knows – Marcus Stoinis ($19,000)

Stoinis will likely return to the Stars XI after a stint on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. After a slow start to BBL12, Stoinis hit his straps with scores of 132 and 92 before succumbing to his injury, so it’s difficult to know what version of the Melbourne superstar we can expect on Sunday.

The Scorchers are well on their way to another BBL title, with realistically only the Sixers standing in their way.

With 10 wins and just three losses, Perth have blown just about every team off the park, led by Aaron Hardie (412 runs), Josh Inglis (399 runs) and Andrew Tye (23 wickets).

Despite sustaining multiple injuries over the stretch, the Scorchers have proven their depth by continuing to perform with a rotating squad, quite the feat considering their lack of overseas talent.

The Renegades have likewise overcome adversity to achieve success, although their position is slightly more precarious.

The red side of Melbourne must win at least one of their remaining matches, a difficult task considering the quality of Sunday’s opponent.

Nevertheless, batsman Sam Harper is in hot form and Will Sutherland will be itching to show that he is one of the best all-rounders in the country with another big effort.

Scorchers v Renegades Fantasy Plays

Love It – Will Sutherland ($14,700)

Sutherland has flourished this season, taking his game to a whole new level. Trusted as a true all-rounder, the young gun has averaged 52 DFS points, but more importantly, that number is 83 in his last few matches. With Kane Richardson out, Sutherland will be forced to lead the attack on Sunday.

Don’t Love It – Martin Guptill ($15,300)

Guptill hasn’t played to his ability in his BBL stint, averaging just 25 DFS points. Despite that, he continues to be slapped with a premium price tag, a price tag that he simply doesn’t deserve in his current form. While I’m aware of Guptill’s impressive record, I’m looking elsewhere for $15k.

Who Knows – Stephen Eskinazi ($13,900)

Eskinazi has been up and down in recent games. The Perth opener produced DFS scores of 52 and 86 against the two Sydney sides, but since then he has dished up a -10 and a 31. At this price, you want some kind of confidence in a player’s scoring ability, which I’m not sure we have here.
