We’re set for yet another double header of BBL action on Sunday, headlined by a clash of the titans as the Sixers host the Scorchers.

The Hurricanes and Thunder will vie for a spot in the top five in the early game, so there’s plenty on the line.

Draftstars have put up a heap of contests to suit every budget, including Qualifiers for the new Big Bash Star competition.

Here Josh Nevett will give his DFS tips for each encounter.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder

Hobart sit just outside the top five with four wins to their name, and it hasn’t been the season they hoped for to date.

The Cane train simply hasn’t gotten rolling, with wins coming irregularly throughout the campaign.

Despite Hobart’s riches of talent, individuals such as McDermott, Wade, David, Ellis and Short are yet to play to their abilities – if a few of them can fire, a finals run is not out of the question.

However, they will have to start winning games like this to get there.

The Thunder, sitting two points clear in fifth, have achieved similar results in a very different manner. Streaks of wins and losses have characterised Sydney’s season, and the Thunder have now lost two on the trot.

However, with David Warner back in the side and Oliver Davies (278 runs) in hot form, the green machine will be confident that they can bounce back on Sunday.

Love It – Oliver Davies ($14,600)

As previously mentioned, Davies has been a standout in this campaign, accumulating 278 runs to be the equal fifth highest scorer for the tournament. The young gun should relish playing in Tasmania’s batting-friendly conditions and presents as great value compared to the other premium hitters on this slate.

Don’t Love It – Daniel Sams ($19,800)

Rumour has it that Sams is playing underdone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if so. The superstar all-rounder has tallied just 7 DFS points in his last three games and is far from the form that saw him record five scores over 60 earlier in the tournament. As such, he’s a hard sell at nearly $20k.

Who Knows – D’Arcy Short (18,900)

It’s almost like we’re all holding out for a Short ceiling game that is never going to come. The hard-hitting left-hander has averaged just 21 DFS points for the season but he keeps copping one of the highest price tags each game, price tags that aren’t justifiable given his current form and role.

What a game this will be!

The Sixers and Scorchers are both in great form and enter this clash as the top two ranked teams in BBL12.

It’s no surprise, we’ve seen this all before – these two franchises and #1 and #2 for titles won.

Both teams have been led by their bowlers – Andrew Tye (20) has taken the most wickets of any player this season, while Sean Abbott (16) is close behind for the Sixers.

Perth have also looked the goods with the bat this season. Josh Inglis has 313 runs to his name and teammate Aaron Hardie has been a revelation with 278.

The Sixers have now added Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon to their ranks, so it will be interesting to see if they have bridged the gap to the Scorchers who appear the clear favourites for glory this year.

Sixers vs Scorchers Fantasy Plays

Love It – Steve Smith ($8,800)

Steve Smith at minimum price… you can’t be serious. That is the reality that presents itself on Sunday, and I expect the Aussie dynamo to be a very popular play. While T20 is probably his least favoured format, Smith has shown that he has all the shots and can score quickly given the right conditions, so make sure to roster him against Perth.

Don’t Love It – Kurtis Patterson ($11,000)

On face value, Patterson doesn’t appear to be an especially poor play on Sunday. However, when comparing him to similar players, the value doesn’t stack up. Both Smith ($8,800) and Jordan Silk ($10,200) are more proven performers with better ceilings than Sydney’s opener, so I don’t see much point picking Patterson against a strong Scorchers attack.

Who Knows – Steven Eskinazi ($10,400)

There’s a slew of cheap batsmen available on Sunday night, and Eskinazi certainly fits that bill. The Scorchers opener found form with 40 off 26 the other night against the Thunder the other night… was it a flash in the pan or will we see more runs against the Sixers?
