The Perth Scorchers will host the Hobart Hurricanes in a BBL12 blockbuster on Wednesday night.

Both teams look set for finals action, but the Scorchers are undoubtedly a cut above along with the Sydney Sixers.

Perth had their first blemish in a while against the hot Sydney Sixers, falling by 6 runs in a tight tussle.

Peter Hatzoglou (2-27) and Stephen Eskinazi (66 off 54) overperformed, but ultimately a chase of 151 proved to be too much against the supreme Sixers bowling attack.

I doubt the result will phase the Scorchers, who have been the team to beat throughout the tournament so far.

Perth have weapons throughout their line-up, headed by Josh Inglis (324 runs), Andrew Tye (20 wickets) and Jason Behrendorff (16 wickets).

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have been steadily building over the last week, with back-to-back wins.

As a result, Hobart sit just inside the top five, and they need to keep winning if they want to stay there.

Fortunately, national team representatives Nathan Ellis and Tim David have hit form at the right time, so there is nothing stopping the Hurricanes from making a late run for glory.

Love It – Nathan Ellis ($15,600)

The Hurricanes vice-captain has roared into form in recent matches, managing a three-game average of 90 DFS points. Despite struggling at the start of BBL12, there is a reason why Ellis has spent time with the Australia squad – because he’s one of the most skillful T20 quicks in the country. Ellis’ price doesn’t yet reflect his form, so I love this play tonight.

Love It – Ashton Turner ($11,600)

Turner has had a solid tournament so far. The powerful all-rounder has averaged nearly 40 DFS points, but his scores at home have been outstanding – 2, 52, 95, 127 and 55. Importantly, Turner has been trusted with the ball in recent matches, so he presents great value at this price.

Don’t Love It – Asif Ali ($8,800)

Things just haven’t clicked for Ali in this tournament. The Pakistani import has produced just one score over 14 in 10 games, a dismal return, even though he has been starved of opportunity at times. It’s hard to see things turning around in this one.

Don’t Love It – Ben McDermott ($17,500)

Like a few of his Hurricanes teammates, McDermott has underperformed in this campaign by his lofty standards. The star opener has averaged just 35 DFS points in BBL12, and his two big scores came against the Strikers. The Scorchers are renowned for having an outstanding bowling attack, so I’ll be fading McDermott again on Wednesday.

Who Knows – Tim David ($13,300)

It’s been feast or famine for Tim David in BBL12. Sure, David has DFS scores of 136, 82 and 91 to his name, but he has also been deprived of opportunities in other fixtures. At this price, you are really after a score of 50+, so it will be interesting to see if David can back up his season-high score from the other night.
