Unbelievably, the Melbourne Renegades are undefeated after three matches and head into Christmas atop the BBL12 table.

They will face title favourites the Hobart Hurricanes on Christmas Eve in a huge clash on the Apple Isle.

The Renegades continue to ride a powerful wave of momentum after dispatching of the Brisbane Heat in a tight run chase.

Four quick wickets from Michael Neser at the top spelled danger for Melbourne’s unbeaten streak, but it was two experienced heads who got the job done for the men in red.

Andre Russell (57 off 42) and Aaron Finch (31 off 43) both showed that they still have the ability to be matchwinners, while import Akeal Hosein produced an exceptional rounded performance (30* and 3-26).

On the other hand, the Hurricanes preseason hype train has been halted after a lacklustre start to the season.

Hobart are now 1-2 after falling to the Sixers in a rain-shortened encounter at the SCG, a record they must amend in pursuing ultimate glory.

While local cult figure Paddy Dooley continues to impress with his left-arm spin, the Hurricanes need more out of their star-studded batting line-up that includes the likes of McDermott, Wade, Short, Khan, David, Neesham and Ali.

Love It – Akeal Hosein ($17,600)

Hosein has been one of the players of the tournament so far, proving his worth as an overseas import. The left-arm tweaker averages nearly 104 DFS points, having produced two scores in the 130 range. With a crucial batting cameo under his belt, I love that Hosein has a variety of scoring avenues.

Love It – Riley Meredith ($14,000)

Meredith has had a slow start to this campaign, averaging just 31 in his opening three matches. However, I expect the Hurricanes to get on top today, especially with the ball. So, Meredith is likely to be at the forefront of that with his express pace. $14k is a great price for a known wicket-taker.

Don’t Love It – D’Arcy Short ($18,400)

Short isn’t the player he once was. The powerful left-hander used to dominate this competition, however, he has failed to do so in recent seasons. Furthermore, Short has lost the bowling role that made him an attractive DFS play in BBL11. As such, this is far too much to pay.

Don’t Love It – Joel Paris ($11,700)

Paris has scored a grand total of 6.5 points in three matches – a very poor return. The left-arm quick has been belted around the park and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is replaced for this clash. However, if he does play, I can’t see a big points return.

Who Knows – Andre Russell ($18,400)

Russell is the top-priced player on this slate, despite averaging just 64 points. The West Indian enigma produced his best performance against the Heat, but before that he scored just 27 and 61. While Russell may have found form, I’m hesitant to roster him at over $18k.
