The AFL Brownlow Medal is one of the events of the year. Not only is it the pinnacle of achievement for individual AFL players, but it’s one of the best punting nights of the year. What other sporting event can you bet on AFTER it’s already been completed? Imagine betting on a horse race after it’s already run - it would be a hell of a lot easier right?

It’s obviously not quite that simple as we all know that the umpires sometimes see the game a little differently to the rest of us!

Even so, the Brownlow is a great betting event, and our team at Before You Bet covers the Brownlow better than anyone with analysis and vote projections for every single match of the season! They have even posted a Brownlow leaderboard so you can see exactly who is projected to finish where.

They’ve also provided a couple of great articles to give you some suggested betting plays:

The great thing about the Brownlow is that you don’t need to get the winner right to make a profit. There are so many different Brownlow betting markets that often the best value comes from other betting options than the overall winner market.

And that’s the situation with the Brownlow Rapidfire offered at Draftstars. You don’t necessarily need to know who will be the overall Brownlow winner, you just need to get five head-to-head matchups correct to pocket up to $2,000.

The Before You Bet team break down the five Brownlow Rapidfire matchups on Draftstars to give you some help with your entries this Sunday!

Connor Rozee (19) vs Callum Mills (17.5)

We have Rozee just ahead of Mills here but it’s close. Rozee is dynamic when he wins the ball and he had some massive games, so you’d think the umpires would take notice of him. We had him polling in 9 games during the season, but he must compete for votes against the likes of Boak, Butters and the reigning Brownlow medalist in Ollie Wines. Mills started the season on fire and looked a smokey chance to win it, but faded later in the season. He also had to compete with perennial over-poller Luke Parker for votes. We have Mills polling in 8 games, so it’s a win for Rozee here.

Darcy Parish (11.5) vs Jack Crisp (11.5)

Aiya! This is a true coinflip based on our projections with both coming in at 11.5 votes, and both projected to poll in 6 games. The lean is towards Crisp as we have him a clear best on ground in three matches, while Parish is only clearly on top in one game, but has potential in a couple of others.

Tom Lynch (13) vs Max Gawn (14)

Tom Lynch had a great season but his stand out games were pretty clear. When he kicked a bag, he’s likely to poll a bunch of votes. Big Max is a little more uncertain as to how much do umpires consider his ruck influence, while he’s also competing for attention with Oliver and Petracca. We have Lynch polling in 6 games in the season, while Gawn is a chance in 7 games. Gawn’s range seems larger so we’ll lean to him.

Cam Guthrie (10) vs Hugh McCluggage (14.5)

This is our biggest discrepancy of the lot with McCluggage 4.5 votes ahead of Guthrie in our projections. We’ve definitely leant to Jeremy Cameron in some spots at Geelong which has hurt Guthrie this season so we only have him polling in 6 games. McCluggage has been ignored by umpires in previous Brownlow counts but surely he gets some attention this season. Has to compete with the Brownlow favourite in Lachie Neale, but we have McLuggage earning votes in 8 games, including at least three 3’s, so confident he gets it done here.

Ollie Wines (12.5) vs Luke Parker (11.5)

Another tight match-up here to close the Rapidfire match-ups. We know from last year that Ollie Wines garners the attention of the umpires as the 2021 Brownlow Medallist, however his form did tail off this year and will be competing for votes with the likes of Boak and Rozee. Luke Parker can certainly be seen as an over-poller in recent years however did trail off in the back end of the season. The likes of Mills, Warner and Heeney will all be competing for votes here. We give Wines the slight edge.

Summary

Overall the Draftstars team have come up with some pretty solid Brownlow match ups. We’re pretty confident we can get the 3/5 from these picks to turn a profit, but we’ll need some luck to get the 5/5. Good luck if following!
