NRL Fantasy

A crucial Thursday night NRL game between two teams desperate for the two points this weekend, as the Titans host the Tigers at Cbus Super Stadium. With the Titans giving up the most points in the NRL per game, we could be in for a high scoring affair here, which is great news for NRL DFS players!

Draftstars has a massive $12,000 guaranteed contest for the Titans and Tigers, with several other contests available, there’s something for everyone, so get involved and make this game even more exciting!

Team News

AJ Brimson makes his return for the Titans, named at fullback and replacing Keano Kini. Jojo Fifita is out, which sees Phillip Sami shift to the wing and Brian Kelly named to return at centre. Chris Randall (suspension) misses out, with Sam Verrills named to start at hooker, and Kruise Leeming joining the bench as a back-up hooker. In the only other change, David Fifita (concussion) is out, replaced on the bench by Jaimin Jolliffe.

The Tigers are far more stable, as they name the same 17 from their round 14 loss to the Raiders.

Overview

Money has come in on the Tigers, and the over in this matchup, and I can’t say I disagree. The Titans are currently on a 3-game losing streak, which is the worst in the NRL. They are in desperate need of a win, however without standouts Keiran Foran and David Fifita, I like the Tigers to get the job done here. Hoping for a high scoring affair, between two teams who have shown they can give up big points on a regular basis.

Love It – AJ Brimson - $10,500

Brimson has a good record against the Tigers, and at this price is a cheap high upside option for your squad. Brimson’s average this season is a paltry 32.4, however two of his 6 games have been injury effected. If we look at the 4 games he’s played the full 80 minutes, he averages a solid 43.55, and whilst he is an injury risk in his first game back, a player of his quality is simply too hard to ignore at the price point. I have a slight concern that he will slip in to five eighth, however he still runs the ball a lot when playing five eighth, and surely will have his chances at scoring big points.

Love It – Luke Brooks - $18,240

How’s the turn around in form been from Luke Brooks over the past month and a half? So much so, that there’s talks the Tigers are looking at re-signing Brooks to another multi-million dollar deal. Brooks has averaged 55.25 over those last 6 weeks, and with his eye-test form matching his DFS output, Brooks is in good enough form to easily slot into your team. There’s no real genuine A+ options in the half/hooker role for this game, with Tannah Boyd being the only other option who’s averaged 50+ this season, so lock Brooks into your squads.

Love It – Tino Fa’asuamaleaui - $22,540

Big Tino has been killing it over the past month, with three 70+ scores in his past 4 games. His minutes haven’t exactly improved, however his involvement has massively increased lately. With his minutes sticking in that 50-60 band, I don’t see any reason as to why Tino will regress this week. In a massive game for the Titans, Tino will be desperate to get his team over the line, and big minutes and a high involvement are almost a guarantee. If he can somehow jag a try, sit back and reap the benefits of spending big on the best DFS player in this game.

Hate It – David Klemmer - $17,730

There’s nothing really wrong with Klemmer, however there are several great options in the forwards in this game, that the high floor, low ceiling game of Klemmer just doesn’t excite me. Without too much research, you can almost guarantee the big Tigers’ forward will score you between 40 and 55, unless there’s an injury, or he scores a try. With attacking options like John Bateman, Isaiah Papali’i, and Stefano Utoikamanu valued around the same price, Klemmer can’t be an option in your squad if you want high upside here.

Hate It – Sam Verrills - $15,680

Verrills is a very talented young hooker, however you can’t deny the fact he is injury prone. With the rake coming back from yet another long-term injury just last week, Verrills’ minutes may remain limited for a few more weeks. Verrills played just 34 minutes last week, and I highly doubt the Titans will ask him to play 80 minutes this week. Whilst he is capable of attacking stats and getting through a good amount of work, I much prefer the option of Api Koroisau for almost the same price. Api is far more likely to play the full 80, and has shown himself to be a crucial factor in the Tigers’ attack.

Who Knows – Phillip Sami - $13,910

Sami is an intriguing prospect at this price, however despite the relatively low-price tag, is the 2nd most expensive outside back in this slate. Given this, you really can only buy him if you believe he will score you at least one try. Sami has the high upside you look for in an outside back, however he also has the ability of completely tanking, as shown by his three scores this season under 25. The Tigers are susceptible to conceding tries down the edges, and Sami has 5 tries in his past 3 games against the Tigers. A high risk, high reward prospect on the Titans’ flank.
