AFLW Round 4 Sunday

Two big games are coming our way this Sunday to conclude Round 4 of the 2019 AFLW Season. Collingwood and the GWS Giants will both be desperate for a win to kick-start their season before it’s too late, while the match of the day is undoubtedly Melbourne against North Melbourne from Casey Fields.

The slate kicks off at 2:05pm AEDT so you have until then to get your entries in for the Draftstars $5,000 Guaranteed feature contest of the day.

We’re going to take a look at some of the players to watch for the Sunday slate, but for more in-depth analysis and help constructing your lineups, head to the brand new AFLW Resources section for historical data, projections, cheat sheets and more!

One of the things we can pick up from the Points Against stats this season is that the Kangaroos and the Demons are the two stingiest teams when it comes to fantasy scoring. It’s only a small sample size, but they are two of the better teams of the competition. That stat would suggest that the other game maybe be the better choice for constructing your lineups.

With Collingwood star Ash Brazill missing this week, the Giants forwards should have an easier time. I really liked the look of Irish Gaelic Football star Yvonne Bonner ($10,490) last week. She goes hard at the ball and has good hands, and even though her skills still have a way to go with the oval ball, she’s improving every week. Expect her and Cora Staunton ($11,090) to be lively today.

One of the best priced forwards on the slate is Kate Gillespie-Jones ($11,550). She’s averaging 82 fantasy points this season with her ability to pick up stats all over the ground. Her 15 disposals, 4 marks, 6 hitouts and 6 tackles a game make her a very valuable fantasy player. It’s a tougher match up against Melbourne, but her physical dominance is very hard to match.

Another who was physically dominant last week was Collingwood’s Sarah D’Arcy ($11,210). She wasn’t getting much help from her teammates, but D’Arcy stood tall and pulled in 66 fantasy points which is very handy.

Emma Kearney ($16,070) has been getting plenty of attention this season which has opened the door slightly for a couple of other Kangaroo midfielders to shine. Former Bulldog Jenna Bruton ($15,050) was one of the best on ground last week, as she racked up 96 fantasy points. She’s averaging almost 20 disposals and 6 tackles per game and she’s likely to be busy again on Sunday. Joining her in the midfield this season has been Jamie Stanton ($15,610). The former Lion has amassed similar stats to Bruton and has been crucial to the success of the Kangaroos this season. Stanton could be a good point of difference.

For cheaper options in the midfield you could consider a couple of Magpies. Sarah Dargan ($6,550) is usually a solid contributor and she’s a great price this week after a slightly quieter game last week. Maddie Shelvin ($7,430) also looked promising in her debut last week and comes at a nice price.

The ruck contest between Lauren Pearce ($14,790) and Emma King ($10,760) should be a cracker, and it’s probably a battle for All Australian honours. Pearce has been more consistent but at the price, she’s hard to take against a quality ruck like King. Instead, I’d be looking a bit cheaper and take Collingwood’s Eliza Hynes ($8,860) who offers good value.
