2017 British Open Daily Fantasy Team
The 2017 British Open gets underway Thursday night from Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, Merseyside. The four majors every year are the events that even the non-golfing fans can really get into, so what better time to get your daily fantasy golfing career underway.
Moneyball and PlayOn are some of the Daily Fantasy Sites in Australia that offer golf competitions. This weekend we’ll be turning our attention towards the $25 Open Championship Special at Moneyball which offers a $4,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The Spine
Rickie Fowler
My pick to win the British Open, Fowler is arguably the most in form golfer in the world at the moment and is incredibly straight driving will be a massive advantage at Royal Birkdale. Is on the hunt for a major as probably the best player to have never won one. Has made the cut at the Open Championship the last three years in a row and finished in the top five twice. Should be in the mix come Sunday.
Jordan Spieth
The ultimate runs player, Spieth is capable of going on birdie streaks unlike anyone else on tour and if he is on song he can take the tournament away from his opponents through just one round. Hasn’t made the top ten of a major in his last five attempts but showed signs in the Masters earlier in the year. Along with Rory McIlroy is capable of probably the largest fantasy score of any player due to their ability to dominate over four days.
Sergio Garcia
Has finished in the top five in three of his last five majors and along with Fowler is my favourite to win the tournament. The ultimate consistency player, proven by his ridiculous 23 top 10 finishes in majors over his career. Averages just over two bogeys per round which puts him in the top 20 in the world. Finally got the ultimate prize when he took out the Masters earlier in the year and will no doubt be relevant on Sunday.
Swingmen
Steve Stricker
He may be 50 years of age but that factor might be an advantage to him this weekend. Stricker is the most accurate driver on the PGA Tour, hitting the fairway 75% of the time, something that will be crucial at Royal Birkdale this weekend. Fairways are flat and lies will be good throughout the weekend which should even the playing field against some of the younger blokes, probably still one of the best putters in the world as well. We expect him to make the cut which means he is a bargain at $5,500.
Zach Johnson
Another straight driver who should benefit from the shorter Royal Birkdale course is Zach Johnson. Consistency is the key here as we want players playing into Sunday and Johnson is a guy who regularly makes the cut. He has failed to do so on just six occasions since the start of 2010 (30 tournaments) and has British Open pedigree, winning the tournament back in 2015.
Bryson DeChambeau
One of the more interesting players to watch on tour, DeChambeau implements the single plain swing and uses irons that are all the same length when playing. Apart from that though, he has been in great form of late and is coming off his first PGA Tour win in the John Deere Classic just a few days ago. DeChambeau shot an impressive -18 to win the tournament and should be in some form coming into the British Open.
Home Town Heroes
Padraig Harrington
Another elite putter on tour is Padraig Harrington. Also loves the British Open having won it twice before. Always puts up a decent outing in front of his ‘home’ crowd. At $5,800 represents some good value.
Lee Westwood
The Englishman hasn’t missed a cut in a major golf tournament since 2010 and has a ridiculous 18 top 10 finishes throughout his career. Is another in the category of best to have never won one and will be extremely hungry here having grown up just a few hours from Royal Birkdale.
Danny Willet
The 2016 Master Champion will be looking to add another trophy to the case when he competes in the British Open for the sixth time. Tied for sixth in the 2015 British Open and made the cut last year. Is easily the lowest priced major winner on offer.
